Sean took Declan and Cian to a Christmas tree farm today. We were all going to go, but I realized all my clothes were maternity,( which are entirely too big now) and I have nothing normal to wear but a pair of jeans. (What is the point of owning normal clothes when you're always pregnant?) I think I need to go shopping. So Sean took some pictures and sent them to me as they were looking for their tree.
The farm was over 10 acres and stretched up a giant hill. This picture was Declan and Cian looking down part of the hill at all the trees. (You can actually see our white van at the bottom of the hill.) I can pretty much tell you what they are thinking by their body language. "Hey look Dad, that's our van"-Declan and "Where's that girl Dooga?"-Cian. There was a girl directing people where to park that Cian liked. Sean said the photo doesn't do it justice. It was really beautiful and pretty high up.
They walked all the way up the hill, trying to find the perfect tree. Unfortunately, they weren't having much luck. The trees were not trained to grow a certain way, so a lot of the trees grew at a 45 degree angle on this big hill. Since we had never cut our own tree down before, Sean didn't know how to cut a tree down or what to look for in a good tree. The boys did find this little tree that reminded them of the tree in Charlie Brown Christmas. They really liked it.
After about an hour and a half, it was clear that they weren't going to find their perfect tree and started heading back down the hill. On the way, they saw two horses by a fence on the land and were so excited to see them up close. They couldn't touch them, by they were still pretty thrilled that they were there. Even though they didn't find a tree there, they still had a great time with Daddy. They rarely get one on one time with Sean, so I was glad they had fun.
After leaving the tree farm, they headed to a tree lot by our house. There has some really nice 7 and 8 foot trees, until you saw the price...$100 for an 8 foot tree. $100 for what? You have got to be kidding me. Needless to say, they didn't buy a tree there. Last year we bought our tree at Walmart. It was dead before Christmas and we had to go and buy a fake tree for the rest of the season. So Sean was a little leary about going to Target to buy a tree, but they went to look anyway. They found a really nice 7 ft tree that looked pretty healthy. Not too many brissles fell off. It was $50...not too bad. The kid at the lot cut the base for them and even put it in the back of the van. They brought it home and started to put it in the stand. I looked at the stand, then the base of the tree...."The tree is not going to fit in that stand Sean." "Yes it will, watch"....Famous last words, needless to say Sean made another trip to Walmart to buy another larger tree stand. Here is the finished product. Declan and the tree on the left and Declan, Cian and Fionn on the right. Tomorrow I will string on the lights and we will all decorate the tree during the Patriots game!!
